Monochrome Emoji

Design & Typography

Single-color, outline-style emoji rendering that displays emoji as simple text symbols without color.

Monochrome emoji are the text-style rendering of emoji characters — simple outlines or symbols in a single color (typically black). This is the "text presentation" form of dual-presentation characters.

Monochrome emoji are useful in contexts where color isn't appropriate or available: terminal emulators, plain text documents, monochrome displays, and accessibility scenarios.

Google's Noto Emoji (without "Color") provides a high-quality monochrome emoji font. Adding VS-15 (U+FE0E) to an emoji character can force monochrome rendering on platforms that support it.
