Emoji Size

Design & Typography

The display dimensions of emoji in different contexts, which vary by platform, application, and rendering context.

Emoji have no fixed size — they scale based on the surrounding text size and context. In body text, emoji typically match the font size. In messaging apps, standalone emoji are often displayed larger (2-3x).

Common rendering sizes:
- Inline text: 16-20px (matching body text)
- Messaging standalone: 32-48px
- Emoji picker: 24-32px
- Reaction/status: 16-20px

For bitmap emoji fonts, display quality depends on the included resolution. Vector emoji (COLR, SVG) render crisply at any size, which is one reason the industry is moving toward vector formats.
