CLDR

CLDR

Emoji Ecosystem

The Common Locale Data Repository, a Unicode project providing locale-specific data including emoji names and search keywords in 100+ languages.

CLDR is one of the Unicode Consortium's most important projects. It provides standardized locale data used by operating systems, browsers, and applications worldwide — including emoji short names and keywords.

When you search for emoji by name on your phone, CLDR data powers that search. It provides the "official" name and alternate keywords for each emoji in each supported language.

For example, CLDR defines that 😀 is "grinning face" in English, "기쁜 얼굴" in Korean, and "cara sonriente" in Spanish. EmojiFYI uses CLDR annotations for its multilingual emoji names and search.
