Emoji Annotation

Design & Typography

Short keywords and descriptions associated with each emoji for search, text-to-speech, and accessibility purposes.

Emoji annotations are metadata provided by CLDR (Common Locale Data Repository) for each emoji. They include:

- **Short name**: The primary display name (e.g., "grinning face" for 😀)
- **Keywords**: Search terms (e.g., "face", "grin", "happy" for 😀)
- **Text-to-speech name**: What screen readers should say

Annotations are localized — each supported language has its own set. This is how emoji keyboards can show emoji when you type words like "happy" or "pizza" in any language.

EmojiFYI uses CLDR annotations for its multilingual search functionality and keyword metadata.
